Why is Microsoft outlook such a CPU resource hog? It always takes 25%+ CPU utilization when just reading email, what the heck is it doing in the background?

It sounds strange but Outlook still has programming code written two decades ago. It was developed when Computers had one CPU/Core. So no matter how fast your CPU will be, Outlook cannot take advantage of it.

I also have the same problem with Adobe Premiere, I have two 1080TI GPU that are almost idle when I do video processing!

Those software are “too big to rewrite” from scratch. So they get a new nice shiny cover, but underneath, the engine runs with 2000 technology.
